Virginia Attorney General (1948-1957). As Virginia Governor (1958-1962), he opposed southern politicians such as Virginia Senator Harry F. Byrd and Arkansas Governor Orval Faubus, terminating massive political resistance against the desegregation of schools. Delegate to the Democratic National Convention of 1960. Judge on the United States Court of Customs and Patent Appeals (1962-1982).<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
